![]() I have been going through a period of writer’s block of late. Doubt sets in. Start reading articles about writer’s block. The only way to snap out if it is just to write...anything. How has your race season been going? Have you made it to every event you wanted to? Did something get in the way? The weather? The realization that someone will livestream the event for you? Haha! I have read so many articles about livestreaming short track races and had so many conversations I am just about tired of it. We have to embrace the good and the bad with technology in every aspect of our lives. At work for example, we have a program that can produce an entire bill of materials 99.9% accurately for the majority of our buildings that we build. However, it makes the person operating that program start to trust it and depend on it and when there is any deviation we become monkeys banging the keyboard trying to figure out why it is wrong or flat out make mistakes. I would suffice to say that just about everyone in this debate is wrong and there will never be rules that appease everyone. I will say that fans who do not respect a tracks wishes should be banned, right or wrong. There are other tracks you can attend. I will also say that fans who deep down think it is ok to livestream a short track event, try doing the same at the movie theater and see how that goes for you (my personal opinion). I do think that tracks need to take a stance on it, one way or another and be sure to post it for everyone to see. Our weekly shows are struggling folks. As more touring series pop up the weekly show is dying a slow death. I have made mention to it in past blogs, without the weekly warriors there will not be 40+ short tracks left in this state as it currently sits. My goal is to stop being that “Short Track Snob” and get back to see more weekly programming this season. If you are someone who likes to travel, go 50/50 or if you see multiple shows a week, pick a track and watch every week. Follow the storyline throughout the season. Some of my best memories in my lifetime are watching the Supers at Slinger week in and week out. Yours could be too! I have so many ideas that I think would work and I also feel like I know what doesn’t. I fantasize about owning a racetrack and all the fun it would be. I love running businesses but never found my niche so I work for someone else. I then snap back to reality and remember the nights where it rained 2 minutes before the feature or rains right up to the hours before race start time and no one else shows up. Or the wonderful “customers” who want to talk about that very “4 letter word” on every darned social media post. Public service announcement: NEVER say anything negative on social media about any business. You make yourself look pathetic and the tracks even worse and if you really want action, contact them directly. Finally, I wanted to pose a challenge to everyone reading this, go to 3 short tracks you have been to in past years and go give them a 5 rating on Facebook. Just to spite the “4 letter word” slingers. Just like in politics, sometimes you have to go down to the other sides level to get a point across. Support weekly racing and play our “Weekly Warrior” pick em game starting next week! Details here.
